7A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1)    An opportunity I would like to pursue is ending animal cruelty.

2)    The who: animals in the United States
The what: they are being mistreated and abused, sometimes to the point that it results in death
The why: there are not enough laws that protect animal rights

3)    Who questions: Do you like animals?
What questions: Should all animals have equal rights?
Why questions: Do you think the government should implement more laws to protect animal rights?

4)    Meghan is currently a college student. She loves animals since her house is literally filled with the many dogs and cats that her family shares. With her love of animals, she does believe that they should all have equal rights no matter what kind of animal they are. She strongly believes that things need to change and that the government needs to take more action towards animal rights.

Rachel is another college student. She also is quite fond of animals and has just recently become a pet owner. She however, has never been a fan of cats much although she believes that they should not be mistreated. She would support the idea of the government implementing more laws.

Lauren is a high school senior. She is very wary of animals and doesn’t like when any of them get too close to her due to her allergies. Although she’s allergic she does not have any kind of harsh or cruel intentions towards animals. She does however believe that every kind of animal should have the same right. She thinks the government should make some more regulations but thinks it’s doubtful due to the fact there are barely any as it is right now.

Mark is my neighbor from next door. He does love animals and even owns a dog named Coco. He thinks that everyone should have equal rights even humans or animals. He doesn’t know about the federal government, but he definitely thinks that Florida should implement more laws because a lot of people take animals for granted and think that their companionship does not matter.

Vishva is a friend of mine who also attends the University of Florida. She loves animals and wants to have pets in the future. She says every animal has a right to live, big or small, and whether they are endangered or not. She believes the government needs to show more initiative towards animals’ rights because animals really help the economy and the ecosystem.

5)    Through the interviews I have learned about my opportunity a lot more. I have learned that there are many people who would support this cause and help take the action necessary towards making change. I know that it won’t be easy since as Lauren mentioned, the government currently does not have many laws that will help animal rights. I feel that if enough people come together we can stand united and have our voices heard and hopefully bring about the right change that will help all animals.

  1. Hey Isabella,

Your post really made me want to go out and do something to end animal cruelty. All animals deserve to be loved and treated well. We live in a world where animal cruelty has become to common and we must do something to end it. I agree that there is a huge opportunity that must be taken for the sake of all the animals that we love. Great job!

  2. Hi Isabella,
Animal cruelty is a very important topic and I agree that humans as a whole should make efforts to stopping it. We are on this Earth to live alongside animals, not exploit them. I think there should be harsher punishments for people that abuse their pets. Even animals that we eat for food, such as cows and chickens, deserve to have a nice life before they die, not be jammed into smelly cages to increase the owners profit.

  3. Hi Isabella!

I think that your post is great and that more laws should be in place to help end animal cruelty! As of now, it's as if people just get a slap on the wrist for mistreating their pets / or almost any animal for that matter. The government needs to enforce more serious repercussions for animal cruelty because how we have it set up now is just not effective. It would be hard to get the government to add more animal rights type of laws but I know that if you put your mind to it you could change that!
