12A - Figuring Out Buying Behavior No. 1
1) Segment: The segment I have selected are people who care about animals, both domesticated and wild, and have a worry for their safety.
2) Three people interviewed: I interviewed three of my friends who all owns pets so I know that they would care for a cause such as this one.
3) Need awareness: Since the people I interviewed all own pets they are most concerned for their safety whenever they are outdoors. For example, when they are on walks. There are some people who may mistreat animals when they walk past them because they strongly dislike them. Another place of concern could be when they take them to grooming where you are left to think that you are leaving your pet in the best care and have no idea what is happening behind closed doors. Concerning animals that are wild or stray, they said that they have the same worry. Whenever someone sees unwanted animals they could abuse them by physically hurting them, trying to trap them, or killing them on the spot.
4) Information search: Whenever any of the people I interviewed go out with their pets they are always very alert about their surroundings. Regarding the grooming situation they try to go to a grooming that they trust and also look at reviews to make sure they are reliable or ask friends or family for their recommendations. Some have online searched up organizations to seek involvement and usually come across the Human Society. Whenever they have any other issues whether it be with their pet, a stray, or wild animal they have found they seek advice from their family or friends the most.
5) Summary: I have learned that there are people out there who are just as concerned and care just as much as I do for animals and their safety. They want their pets to be able to wander the world knowing that nothing bad will happen to them even from simply going for a walk and that other animals will not be mistreated either.
6) Drawing conclusions: Based on these interviews, I can confirm once again that there is definitely an unmet need with this cause. A lot of people are aware of the problem so I do not think that awareness or lack of information is an issue. The real issue at hand is the lack of action. There are some organizations that already exist such as the very well known, Human Society, but not enough people are involved as well as the issue with there not being enough government regulations set towards animal abuse. The clear issue here is inaction.
